Shadow Gallery
Legacy
'Legacy', the newest release from Magna Carta's Shadow Gallery starts on kind of an eerie note, as a wind blows in and the melodic music of the second part of "Cliffhanger" kicks in before once again changing gears to a more metal rooted sound.

Unlike the bands previous release ('
Tyranny'), which was a concept album, this album contains six tracks which are very different from each other. The vocals on much of the album are very Styx like, containing the multiple part harmonies that Styx are famous for. The guitar parts are very prog metal based, and the keyboard parts are among the best I have ever heard, and at times sound like something even Jordan Rudess would drop his jaw at.

The third track, the optimistic "
Colors" is arguable one of the best ballads the band have ever written, with a chorus that could give one goosebumps. The final track on the album is the project's epic track "First Light". The songs intro music is clearly inspired by Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine", while the remainder of the track is Shadow Gallery all the way.

Although it's only the 4th effort from the band, it is obvious that they have staying power and that they get better with each release.  And with this newest addition to their catalogue, even if they did call it quits now, they would leave behind an amazing legacy.
